Kindergarten at Adventure Montessori Learning:
The Kindergarten Program is a comprehensive learning experience that takes place in both the students’ individual Primary classrooms and in the Kindergarten Room (the Enrichment Room). The children continue their individual learning in their classes from 8:30-11 AM. They play outside, eat lunch and come together as a community from 1 – 3:15 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, the children meet from 1 – 2:45 PM. (Extracurricular classes begin at 3 PM.) The kindergarten afternoon classes are team taught by two Montessori Lead teachers. Each team teaches the academics on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, for two weeks, while a second team teaches sports – Body, Spirit and Mind. Then the teams rotate every two weeks, so the children know and interact with all the Primary Lead teachers each week. The kindergarten curriculum is described below. Literacy…is Monday: The basic format for Literacy begins with a story from the The Children’s Book of Virtues by William J. Bennett, or from another book that teaches about a virtue. After the story, the children proceed to work on individual projects that involve skills such as writing, tracing, and cutting. The children will eventually be writing and illustrating their own books! It’s also great fun and assists in the comprehension of a story when the children act it out! French….is Monday: An introduction to French will be given the last half hour of Literacy. Ms. Charlotte will begin by teaching greetings and units on colors, numbers and animals. Spanish is…Tuesday and Thursday Hello, Adventure Montessori Parents! It is the beginning of another school year and we are all very excited! The Kindergarten Spanish lessons will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays, however, they will be from 1 – 2:45 PM. I’ve added two new lessons to the program: Tansportacion;”Transportation” and Opuestos-“Opposites”. The Kindergarten students will learn different songs according to the units, and will learn about the differences between the English and Spanish alphabet. For each sound in the Spanish alphabet, they will learn three different words. The last week of September, we are going to start practicing our presentation for the Winter Celebration. I will be in contact with all of you, so we can talk about costumes for the play and discuss other areas that could use volunteer help. Please feel free to talk to me any time about the Spanish Program. It will be a pleasure to answer your questions. Thank you for your support of our school community. Gladys I. KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION
Graduation is one of AML’s most special events, as we gather to celebrate the growth and achievements of our kindergarten students. During this evening event, the children wear royal blue caps and gowns and prepare songs and individually written comments about the school year, from their own perspectives. The children receive their diplomas, one by one, and linger after the ceremony for “photo ops”! This event is catered and held under a canopied area on the playground. Pictures and a DVD compliment the evenings festivities.
